Big Title

educationprogram

Our education program works to break the cycle of poverty by assisting the most vulnerable households in paying mandatory school fees. In many African countries families must pay school fees for their children to attend school. Many households live under $3 per day. This makes school fees impossible for many homes, and the cycle of poverty continues.

We believe in the transformative power of education.

Sunny Futures is working to bridge the education gap for vulnerable youth in Eastern Africa. We are partnered with Rutysa Primary School in Isingiro District located near Mbarara, Uganda where we support the education for children from households that are unable to cover school fees. We have also partnered with two schools in Tukuyu, rural Tanzania to provide 300 education for youth in need.

Although the annual school fees are nominal by Western standards - $60 per student per year (.16 cents per day) - it is much too expensive for many households living on less than $1.25 per day. Many households often lack formal employment and work as subsistence farmers.

Rutysa Primary School has 400 students, many of which have physical or intellectual disabilities. Supporting students that attend Rutysa is important, as 40% of children living with disabilities in developing countries do not attend school. Without an education, job prospects are limited.

Your support makes a difference

A photo of Prince, a young student at Rutsya Primary School in Mbarara, Uganda before he receive a new uniform (left). Prince was provided a new uniform through our education program (sweater, dress shirt, shorts, socks, and shoes) - the very first one he has ever had. Since receiving the uniform, Prince feels happier and more accepted by others at school.

For only $35 CAD, a uniform completely changes the mindset and confidence of a young student.
