Education is vital to break the cycle of poverty. Yet, in many countries, there are mandatory school fees required for children to attend school. The required fees, which are due each term, are a barrier for poor families. These families often also battle food insecurity, unemployment, and health issues.

Because of required school fees, children are unable to attend school. Some children who attend school may be unable to afford a school uniform. Or, children may wear the same uniform daily, often with stains or rips. On average, many children walk at 3 kilometers to school.
